Events

We have had numerous talks booked, for organisations such as the WI, Probus, branches of the Embroiderers’ Guild and so on, as well as an appearance at the Leeds International Medieval Congress, and a stand at the British Wool Show in Thirsk. You can see details of upcoming public apearances below.

We love talking to groups, and would be very happy to receive requests from any organisation. We offer a talk of about 40 minutes, covering the history of the battle (by Heather) and the details of the embroidery and organisation of the project (by Shirley).

We do take questions afterwards, but we also like to bring some of the other stitchers, who will work on their panels live, and join us in answering any questions your members might have. We also have a sales and information table. If you would like to discuss a visit to your group, feel free to contact us.

Battle of Stamford Bridge Re-enactment Weekend

We will, of course, be out in strength for the battle re-enactment weekend, Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25. This will take place in Stamford Bridge - look out for the signposts to car parks and to the event field itself.

As well as the battle re-enactment, there will be Living History attractions, archery, falconry displays, craft stalls, children's events and a special boat-burning finale on Sunday night. You can see details of the itinerary and book your tickets on the Society's website.

Don't forget - if you live in the village, you can get cheaper tickets if you purchase them before the event, cash only, from the Post Office.

The events on Saturday begin at 10.30am and finish at 4.30pm. Sunday begins at 10am, with the ceremony to rename the Viking longboat display by the bridge. Instead of Ormen, the name of Harald Hardrada's boat, it will be renamed Einar, the name of Tom Wyles' Viking persona, in his memory. After another full day of activities, the boat-burning finale will start at 7pm.
